Sharing Too Much On Social Networks ...
We have all heard about the dangers of sharing too much on social media sites like Facebook. This message does not seem to be getting through and I wanted to take this opportunity to share my most recent experience.
A job seeker applies for one of my open positions. We had an interview (a good one). She was very articulate and perfect for the role that we were discussing. I checked a few references, again with very positive results.
Her personality, tenure and skill set were an absolute perfect match for my Client. I presented her background and the initial response was really good and then ....
I get the uncomfortable phone call. "Ummm ... did you happen to check the candidates Facebook page?" My heart drops because I know what is coming. In this case it was a really inappropriate bikini shot, but it could just as easily have been a bong picture or a beer funnel cameo. The candidate was disqualified immediately much to everyone's dismay.
I understand that work is work and home is home but Social Media is very hard to make private. Please carefully consider what and where you post and what the long term ramifications might be. Even if you take something down later, it may have been copied somewhere else without your knowledge.
Happy Job Hunting!
